29-year-old male, from Covert Michigan Van Buren County.

The investigation will be forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Sheriff Daniel E Abbott reports that on 06/19/2019 at approximately 22:00 hours a deputy on routine patrol in Geneva Township observed a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to catch up to the motorcycle, which was continuing at a high rate of speed. The driver was recklessly passing other motorists and disregarding traffic control devices. The deputy activated his light and siren in attempt to stop the motorcycle due to his driving behavior. The 29-year-old operator of the motorcycle continued driving in a reckless manner and was failing to stop for the deputy.

Given the danger to other traveling motorists, the decision was made to terminate the pursuit. While the deputy deactivated his emergency equipment, the male motorcycle operator went off the road into a field at 56th street and 18th avenue and ditched the motorcycle fleeing on foot. The 29-year-old male operator was apprehended by the deputy after a short foot pursuit in the field. It was determined the motorcycle was stolen from Allegan County in 2018.

The suspect admittedly was under the influence of methamphetamine and ecstasy. The suspect was lodged at the Van Buren County jail for the above offenses awaiting arraignment.
