INFORMATION:

Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that on Wednesday 04/24/2019 the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit conducted a drug buy operation in the City of South Haven where Cocaine was purchased from a 50 year old male subject. After the drug buy deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Response Division, K-9 team and officers from the South Haven City Police Department and K-9 team made contact and arrested the 50 year old male subject following the drug buy. The 50 year old male subject was inside of a parked vehicle at the time deputies and officers made contact with him and he was the only occupant of his vehicle. The contact and arrest was conducted in a parking lot on Huron Street near Broadway Street in the City of South Haven. During the arrest, the 50 year old male subject attempted to run and get away from deputies and officers, deputies and officers used physical force to take the 50 year old male subject into custody. During the arrest of the 50 year old male subject, he was found to be in possession of 11.1 grams of suspected cocaine (19 individually packaged baggies of suspected cocaine). The 50 year old male subject was arrested on the two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest for delivery of Cocaine and Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit detectives will be requesting additional charges of Delivery of Cocaine, P.W.I.D (possession with intent to deliver) Cocaine and R&O (Resist and Obstruct police officers) for the drug buy that occurred prior to the police contact and the struggle that occurred during the arrest of the 50 year old male subject. The 50 year old male subject was lodged at the Van Buren County Jail.

The incident will be forwarded to the prosecutor for review.
