Several locations along 59th Street, County Road 215 and County Road 384 in Columbia Twp. and Geneva Twps., Van Buren County

Suspect 1:

24 year old female from Kalamazoo, MI (Name withheld pending arraignment)


Sheriff Daniel Abbott reports that Van Buren County Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious four-door white Cadillac in the 10000 block of County Road 215 in Columbia Township. The driver of the vehicle was reported to be checking mailboxes in the area, removing documents, and opening them while driving down nearby roads. An observant area resident noticed the activity and was able to obtain a license plate and pass the information along to Van Buren County Central Dispatch. Utilizing this information, responding Deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle in the area. The ensuing investigation led Deputies to identify a suspect in this incident as well as several pieces of stolen mail. At the time of this release, thirteen potential victims were identified early in the investigation, with the possibility of several more. Deputies located mail from the following address ranges:

09275 to 11825 of 59th Street

51968 to 58568 of County Road 384

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents in the area to check their bank activity and confirm the receipt of incoming/outgoing checks, invoices, and other sensitive correspondence delivered via United States Postal Service. If you saw anything suspicious in the area, or if you determine that correspondence was not delivered or received as intended, please contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is on-going.
