Location:   71000 Block of M-51 Highway, Paw Paw Township

Suspects/Charges:

Arrested Suspect #1: Kevin Mears, 44-year-old man from Decatur Michigan. Lodged/Charged Count #1: Armed Robbery Count #2: Home Invasion 1st Degree Count #3: Unlawful Imprisonment Count #4: Assault with the intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder Count #5: Felony Habitual Offender

Arrested Suspect #2: Dallas Lutz, 25-year-old man from Decatur Michigan.

Lodged/Charged Count #1: Armed Robbery Count #2: Home Invasion 1st Degree Count #3: Unlawful Imprisonment Count #4: Assault with the intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder Count #5: Felony Habitual Offender

Pending Suspect/Charges:

41-year-old Decatur female (name not being release as charges are pending) may include all/or some of those listed charges on the above listed/arrested suspects

Victims:

36-year-old Paw Paw man. He sustained severe head and body trauma which required hospital treatment (released from hospital)

29-year-old Paw Paw woman. She sustained severe head and body trauma which required hospital treatment (released from hospital)

Information:

Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that Van Buren County Sheriff Deputies on Thursday October 25th, 2018 at around 11:00pm responded to an address in the 71000 block of M-51 highway for a reported Armed Robbery which had just occurred.

Deputies on scene found two severely injury victims both of which were requiring hospital care for significant head and body trauma.

Speaking to the victims, they reported two masked men forcefully breaking into their home one of which was armed with a handgun.

The male victim was tied up with zip ties and beaten while the female victim attempted to fight off the intruders which resulted in them severely beating her.

The suspects attempted to steal a large safe out of the home but were unsuccessful and fled out of the home empty handed to an awaiting vehicle driven by the 41-year-old Decatur woman.

Investigators were able to develop a possible suspect and were able to locate him at a home in the Village of Decatur. Contact with him an additional male and female suspect were developed. At this home deputies found one suspect covered in blood along with zip ties matching those which were used on the male victim at the crime scene.

Investigators arrested and lodged both men in the Van Buren County Jail for their involvement in this violent robbery.

Charges for the female are pending upon review of this criminal complaint by the Van Buren County Prosecutors Office.
