Narrative: Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that upon Saturday June 17th 2017 at approximately 6:40pm, Sheriff Deputies along with emergency medical staff were dispatched to a two vehicle personal injury crash that occurred at the intersection of 32nd St and 45th Avenue near Paw Paw Michigan. Deputies and Paw Paw Police Officers arrived on scene and found two vehicles that had collided in the intersection. The result of the collision caused both vehicles to subsequently leave the roadway and come to rest in a horse pasture. Deputies and medical staff found the 30-year-old male driver from Paw Paw severely injured at the scene and attempted to CPR to revive him. The attempts to revive driver #2 were unsuccessful and subsequently driver #2was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Deputies and EMS staff also attended to the two occupants of the second vehicle. The driver was evaluated and taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo MI for medical treatment. The passenger did not require medical treatment and was released at the scene.
Deputies then began the investigation into the cause of the crash and found that driver #1 had failed to stop at the posted stop sign intersection and struck a driver #2 vehicle which had the right-of-way. It does not appear at this time that alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the crash, but the Van Buren County Accident Investigation team is investigating to find what was the exact cause of the traffic crash. Upon the completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review to see if any charges are applicable in the situation.
