Investigation was conducted into missing funds from Hartford Township during January 2011 through December 2016.
Township of Hartford; Township Hall located at 61310 CR 687, Van Buren County.
Gerrie Lee Heskett, 61-year-old female from Hartford.
Embezzlement between the amounts of $50,000-$100,000.
Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that in January of this year (2017) the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division began an investigation, at the request of the Hartford Township Board, into alleged missing funds that were the responsibility of the Township’s longtime Cemetery Sexton, Gerrie Heskett.
A forensic auditor assisted the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation of Hartford Township’s financial and bookkeeping documents along with evidence collected by law enforcement on several search warrants executed in relation to this investigation.
The investigative report was turned over to the County Prosecutor’s Office for review. The Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office did authorize this week charges on Ms. Heskett for “Embezzlement” between the amounts of $50,000 and $100,000.
The amount of the theft and/or misappropriation of funds discovered during this investigation is not being released at this time.
Gerrie Heskett did appear in South Haven District Court yesterday, Wednesday June 14th, 2017, and was arraigned on the embezzlement charge.
Gerrie Heskett’s next appearance date on this charge is July 5th, 2017 at 1:00 pm in South Haven District Court.
