Sheriff Daniel Abbott reports that Van Buren County Deputies were dispatched to County Road 657 near 66th Avenue for a serious Personal Injury Accident with ejection and entrapment.  Deputies arrived on scene with medical personnel and found that passersby were helping to assist the occupants of this vehicle.  Deputies immediately noticed that the passenger was entrapped in the SUV and that the driver had been ejected and was located approximately 20 yards to the North of the vehicle.  It was apparent that both the Driver and Passenger suffered serious injuries in this accident.  The Driver was transported By Van Buren EMS to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.  The passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle by Lawton Fire and Rescue using the Jaws of Life.  After the passenger was safely removed from the vehicle he was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital by South County EMS.  Through the investigation Deputies found that the vehicle was traveling South on County Road 657, when for unknown reason the vehicle veered off the east side of the roadway where the driver over corrected causing the driver to lose control.  The vehicle left the road way on the East side where sheared off a small tree and telephone before rolling several times and coming to a rest on the divers side in the front yard of a residence.  The out of control vehicle came just feet from the residence located in the Northeast corner of this intersection.  At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash.  Deputies do not believe the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and speed is a major contributing factor in this incident.  The power company has been contacted and is in the process of repairing the damaged lines.  This accident is currently under investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
