NATURE OF INCIDENT: 

Single Vehicle Motorcycle Crash

INCIDENT #: 2106-17

 DATE & TIME:

 04/14/2017 at approximately 6:50 pm

 Venue:

82nd Avenue and 39th St, Township of Decatur, County of Van Buren, State of Michigan

 SUSPECT/DRIVER:

 A 51 year old male from Paw Paw MI.  Name withheld pending the completion of the investigation. 

SUSPECT VEHICLE: 

A 2000 Kawasaki Motorcycle. 

INJURIES:

The driver did sustain multiple facial, head, and back injuries. The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

ALCOHOL/DRUGS:

Undetermined at this time.

NARRATIVE: 

Sheriff Daniel Abbott reports that a Van Buren County Secondary Road Patrol Deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle motorcycle crash on 82nd Avenue and 39th St in Decatur Township.  Upon arrival the Deputy along with Fire and EMS staff located the driver at a residence close to the crash scene.  The driver had sustained multiple facial, head, and back injuries due to the crash.  The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  The driver stated that he swerved to miss a dog in the roadway and lost control of his motorcycle resulting in the crash.  The driver was taken to the hospital for medical treatment for his injuries.

An investigation into the crash found that the driver does not have a valid license and has numerous convictions for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.  The use of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash is still under investigation.  Upon the completion of the investigation the report will be forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office for review.

The case is still open at this time and further details will be released as the investigation continues.
