Location: 49000 of M-43, Arlington Township, Van Buren County 


Sheriff Daniel E Abbott reports that on Sunday, October 8th,  at approximately 7:30pm, a concerned citizen telephoned Van Buren County Central Dispatch to report a possible drunk driver traveling west bound on M-43 near Glendale.  A Van Buren County Deputy in the area was able to located the vehicle, which was observed by the Deputy swerving all over the roadway, The deputy had to move over on the roadway so the deputy was not hit by the drivers vehicle. Upon first contact with the driver, the Deputy immediately detected the odor of alcohol in the air and upon the driver's breath. The driver was ran through field sobriety tests and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The deputy arrested the driver for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (OUIL) and lodged the driver at the Van Buren County Jail.  The driver, a 43 year old male from the Gobles area, had six (6) previous drunk driving offenses, which upped the current charge to a felony. This case has been forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office for their review and authorization of the charges. Suspects:        1) A 43 year old male, from Gobles  (Name withheld pending authorization of charges from the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office and Arraignment)
